The five First Nation communities in Cape Breton, Unama’ki in the Mi’kmaq language (pronounced Una Maugi), have formed a unique economic partnership and established a collaborative approach to economic development that is becoming recognized across Canada. They recognized the importance of taking a business approach to pursuing economic opportunities and the importance of partnering with business and governments. The Unama’ki Economic Benefits Office is the result.

Cape Breton Explorations Ltd. (CBEX) – is a private, renewable energy development company operating in Atlantic Canada. The founders of the company have a track record of developing wind projects and have developed a 17.3 MW Enercon wind farm located in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. All future renewable energy projects developed by this team will be developed as CBEX projects.

The CBEX business model is to develop Renewable Energy Projects that are sustainable and economically feasible. CBEX is currently developing several projects including a 250 MW wind hydro facility under Cape Breton Hydro Ltd., which is a subsidiary holding of CBEX.
